The South African blogging scene has picked up rapidly in recent times with thousands of South Africans putting pen to paper (finger to keyboard) and hitting the web. One of the best sporting blogs is Keo who covers rugby and some cricket. There is plenty of controversial piece written to entice response for the readers which put me off a bit. The cricket side is poor and I prefer to read Cricketza which when updated gives a better view of South African cricket.

The mother of all South Africa blogs is 2Oceansvibe. Way back when before I had an inkling what a blog was a mate introduced me to 2Oceansvibe, and the slogan “Work is a sideline, Live the holiday” immediately stuck in my mind. Good concept I thought and what a concept it has turned out to be. Seth Rotherham the owner of 2Oceansvibe, often has prizes to be won on the site, with somebody picking up a R30K (roughly £2.6K) prize recently. The blog comments on most things, has a positive vibe, keeps clear of politics and anything negative to do with South Africa even though by now he really has a soapbox to stand on. 2Oceansvibe receives over 30 000 unique hits a month, and while it can be brand focused, all the associated brands are things that would be recommended by Seth anyway. An example of this would be OvertoHugh. A mate of mine impersonates Hugh Bladen which all started when the clip below was uploaded to youtube. Somehow Seth picked up on this clip and promoted it, which falls nicely into the 2Oceansvibe brand.

While Seth definitely did my mate a favour, it has been returned with a weekly sport round up supplied by these chaps. 2Oceansvibe often gets the “scoop” as loyal readers will email through the latest news, or some of the funniest emails doing the rounds. This is definitely one of the worlds blogs worth reading and a must for your bookmarks or feed.

Seth certainly lives the concept of his blog, often identifying with his readers and referring to the ladies on and off his site as angels. He has appeared in various magazines promoting his brand, and may well make millions out of the concept – that is if he hasn’t already made millions.
